Monti, in the heart of Rome’s historic center, is where traditional Roman life meets Instagram-ready Urban Bohemia. Where grandmothers chat with the butcher and hipsters pick through racks of vintage Levis. Oh, and it’s also home to the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, Michelangelo’s “Moses,” and that most famous fight venue, the Colosseum. Stroll through the charming, vine-draped streets adjacent to the Roman Forum to find locally-crafted clothing and jewelry, antique treasures, heaping plates of bucatini all’Amatriciana and some of Rome’s best gelato. If you’re feeling sophisticated, browse the art galleries, sip an aperitivo at a stylish bar and head to the nearby Teatro dell’Opera. Or if you want to do as the Romans do, just relax on the fountain steps in Piazza della Madonna dei Monti and watch life go by. No matter what, you’ll see that Monti itself is a conversation starter.
